Ohio State picked up its first verbal commitment of the summer when Jaylen McClain announced Monday night he will be a Buckeye.

McClain is a 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back who is the No. 3 player in the state of New Jersey according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

A three-star, he attends Seton Hall Prep in West Orange and is the No. 243 prospect in the country.

Following McClain’s commitment, Ohio State has 14 players in its 2024 class, which ranks no. 4 in the nation behind Georgia, Michigan and Notre Dame, schools that all have at least 18 verbals already.

Penn State is right behind the Buckeyes, giving the Big Ten three teams in the top five in the second week of June.

Minnesota is 13th while Wisconsin is No. 15 and Iowa is No. 20.

Whether or not those schools can hang where they are remains to be seen, however, as many top prospects figure to make decisions after going on official visits this summer.
