Ohio State Buckeyes: Quinn Ewers intends to transfer

Ewers was the top-rated recruit in the class of 2022, but he opted to graduate from Southlake (Texas) Carroll early to enroll at Ohio State in August and begin collecting money on his name, image and likeness.

Head coach Ryan Day stressed from the day Ewers arrived he had a lot of work to do to catch up to redshirt freshmen C.J. Stroud and Jack Miller III and true freshman Kyle McCord, who competed in the spring and preseason for the Buckeyes’ starting job.

“It’s a long, long way to January and I guess anything could happen,” Day said in August. “We’re just going to take it one day at a time and see how everyone is working in that room.”

Yahoo! Sports reported Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech are the schools Ewers will consider after entering the portal.

He originally committed to Texas, and his decommitment last year was viewed as a major blow to Tom Herman, then head coach of the Longhorns. He was later fired and replaced with Steve Sarkisian.

After Miller was temporarily suspended following an arrest for OVI, Ewers moved up to No. 3 quarterback behind starter Stroud and backup McCord.

Ewers played two snaps, both handoffs, in Ohio State’s final home game of the season, a blowout win over Michigan State.

He can still redshirt, so he will take four years of eligibility with him to his new school.

Miller, who was reinstated after pleading to a lesser charge, announced this week he is entering the transfer portal, but Ohio State received a verbal commitment from Devin Brown on Wednesday.

A former USC commit, Brown played at Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah, last season.

He is a four-star prospect and the No. 52 prospect in the country and No. 5 quarterback according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
