Ohio State defensive lineman looking for new place to play

Tuesday he declared he will look to find somewhere else to play this fall.

The 6-foot-2, 280-pound Barrow redshirted in 2016 and played in two games in ’17 before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

Recovery from injury lingered into last season, and he did not see the field before announcing in October he would not play again, citing medical reasons.

"I love this game with all my heart,” he wrote in a message posted on social media Oct. 21. “It's opened so many doors for me in my life and I've gotten to experience things that I'd never thought I'd be able to. But due to unfortunate circumstances throughout my football career, I found it was in my best interest to medically retire. Even though it has been rough the past couple of years I couldn't be anymore thankful to be in the position I am in. I've grown in every aspect of my life. I have built so many great relationships with some real ones that will be my brothers for the rest of my life. I've had a great experience playing at OSU getting a Chance to compete at the highest level everyday. Thank you to everyone who played a part in helping me achieve this. I will stay at OSU and make sure I graduate! I will be successful and I am determined to make it happen! I will continue to grow as a man and I am ready to take on this next chapter in my life! Go Bucks"

With our without Barrow, Ohio State has no shortage of defensive linemen on scholarship this spring.

Early-enrollees Zach Harrison and Noah Potter give coach Larry Johnson nine scholarship ends to work with while there are seven tackles.

Barrow's announcement comes three days after head coach Ryan Day confirmed L'Christian "Blue" Smith, a redshirt freshman receiver from Wayne, has also decided to transfer at the end of the semester.

Smith was the fourth scholarship player known to leave the program since the end of last season.

Quarterback Tate Martell transferred to Miami (Fla.), linebacker Keandre Jones is headed to Maryland and running back Brian Snead reportedly transferred to Iowa Wesleyan Community College.

Barrow is the eighth player from the 2016 class to transfer while 11 have become full-time starters so far and a handful of members are looking to break into the lineup or earn bigger roles in 2019.

Ohio State is midway through spring practice.

The spring game is scheduled for April 13.
