Ohio State football: Another quarterback transferring to Columbus

“Thank you to everyone at Aggieland for making everything feel like home,” he wrote in a message posted on social media. “I’ve loved Texas A&M, my teammates (gonna miss you guys) and Aggie Football (especially the 12th man).”

“I learned a lot from (head coach Jimbo) Fisher and (quarterbacks coach Darrell) Dickey, but that chapter is now over. Now it’s my privilege to join a team and program with the richest heritage in college football, THE (sic) Ohio State University Buckeyes and Buckeye Nation.”

The 6-foot-3, 216-pounder thanked Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich for their confidence in him before informing his new teammates, “I’m ready to get to work.”

LaRoe did not see action for the Aggies last season after the Texas native threw for 3,029 yards, 33 touchdowns and five interceptions as a senior at Colleyville Heritage High School in 2017.

He is the fifth quarterback to join the Ohio State program (or announce plans to do so) since the beginning of the year.

Justin Fields transferred from Georgia, Gunnar Hoak transferred from Kentucky and California high school senior J.P. Andrade committed to the Buckeyes as a preferred walk-on.

Day also secured a verbal commitment from Kyle McCord, a four-star prospect in the class of 2021 from Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep, in April.

Meanwhile, Dwayne Haskins went pro early, Tate Martell transferred to Miami (Fla.) and Matthew Baldwin transferred to TCU.

Fields, a five-star recruit last year, is considered the front-runner to start this fall while Hoak and senior Chris Chugunov will also be in the mix. They were both three-star prospects in high school, as was Andrade.

Andrade and LaRoe will join Danny Vanatsky to give Day and Yurcich three walk-ons to work with.
