Ohio State football: Notable numbers for the 2019 Buckeyes

With the 130th Ohio State football season in the books, let’s take a look at some of the numbers that defined the Buckeyes in 2019.

Ohio State won at least 13 games for the fourth time. The Buckeyes were also 13-1 last season, and they went 14-1 in 2014. They were 14-0 in 2002.

Ohio State averaged 46.9 points per game, breaking the record of 45.5 set in 2013. Five of the six highest-scoring seasons in school history have come since 2013. The 2014 team averaged 44.8 points per game while the ’18 team scored 42.4 and the ’17 team scored 41.1. The outlier? The 1969 team averaged 42.5 points in just nine games.

The 2019 Buckeyes set a record by outscoring opponents by an average of 33.1 points per game. That surpassed the previous high of 32.7 points by the 1916 Buckeyes and 32.2 average of the ’69 team.

Against Clemson, J.K. Dobbins rushed for 100 or more yards for the 19th time in his 42-game career and the 10th time this season. The Fiesta Bowl was the first time Ohio State did not win a game in which Dobbins rushed for 100 yards.

Dobbins broke Eddie George’s school record for rushing yards in a season and became the first Ohio State running back with 2,000 yards in a season.

Justin Fields threw for 3,273 yards, third-most in school history in one season. Dwayne Haskins broke the record last season with a Big Ten-record 4,831 yards last season. Joe Germaine is No. 2 with 3,330 yards in 1998.
