He committed during a ceremony at a church in Scottsdale, Ariz., and shared the news with a video posted to social media that included his call to Day and quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis telling them, “I’m ready!”
Raiola is the son of longtime Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola, who was an All-American at Nebraska prior to his pro career.
The younger Raiola spent his first two years of high school at Burleson High School in Texas, where his coach was former Bengals quarterback Jon Kitna, who was later a teammate of Dominic Raiola in Detroit.
“Coach Jon Kitna believed in me to play quarterback my freshman year, and I never looked back from there,” Raiola said in his announcement video. “I wouldn’t be here today without him giving me the opportunity to learn what it means to be a man and a quarterback and a leader. I’m excited for this next chapter at Chandler High School. I think we can do some tremendous things here.”
Day has made a habit of signing highly-regarded quarterbacks since he became head coach for the Buckeyes in 2019.
Ohio State brought in four-stars Jack Miller III and C.J. Stroud in 2020 and Kyle McCord and Quinn Ewers the following year.
Prior to that, he recruited Justin Fields as a transfer from Georgia.
Miller and Ewers left the program in December after Stroud won the starting job last season, but the future of the position looks bright for the Buckeyes with McCord as Stroud’s backup and four-star freshman Devin Brown learning the ropes this year.
