Ohio State in pursuit of offensive line help as National Signing Day approaches

A 247Sports Composite four-star prospect from Kahuku, Hawaii, Vimahi is the No. 124-ranked player in the country. The 6-foot-4.5, 263-pounder is not only the No. 7 offensive guard prospect in the nation but the best who has not issued a verbal commitment.

He told BuckeyeGrove.com, a site dedicated to Ohio State athletics news with a focus on recruiting, he enjoyed his visit to Columbus.

“Real life Wednesdays,” a program retired coach Urban Meyer began as a way to connect players with potential future employers and introduce them to aspects of the professional (off-field) world they might not know about as college students, particularly impressed Vimahi and his mother, who accompanied him on the trip.

Vimahi, who is also reportedly considering USC and Oklahoma, has a little more than a week to make his college choice.

He told BuckeyeGrove he intends to announce his decision and make it official Feb. 6, the traditional National Signing Day.

Ironically, the only unsigned guard ahead of Vimahi on the 247Sports Composite is Doug Nester, a four-star prospect from Huntington (W.V.) Spring Valley who verbally committed to Ohio State long ago but has been reconsidering since Meyer announced his retirement in December.

Ohio State also remains in pursuit of Dawand Jones, a three-star offensive guard from Indianapolis Ben Davis High School.

Jones made an official visit to Penn State over the weekend, two weeks after visiting Columbus.

He published a top five of OSU, PSU, Florida, Indiana and USC last week.

Ohio State has 11 scholarship offensive linemen on the 2019 roster.

That includes 2019 four-star signees Jack Miller (a center from Buford, Ga.) and Ryan Jacoby (a tackle from Mentor, Ohio).

Left tackle Thayer Munford is the only returning starter from last season, though tackle Joshua Alabi and guard Wade Davis both got some meaningful experience last season and offensive line coach Greg Studrawa has said he is high on the potential of Josh Myers, a sophomore center from Miamisburg.

Ohio State could also add some much needed depth via the transfer route.

Jonah Jackson, a captain and honorable mention All-Big Ten guard at Rutgers last season, is considering finishing his career at Ohio State after announcing Friday he intends to leave the Scarlet Knights.

He started six games at center in 2017 and 11 games at right guard last season, when the Media, Pa., native also made the Academic All-Big Ten.

A grad transfer who will be immediately eligible, Jackson also has interest from Oklahoma, Penn State, Virginia, Texas, Pittsburgh, Iowa and Maryland according to Bobby Deren of 247Sports.
