Ohio State recruiting hot streak continues with pledge from Tennessee DB

The latest product of that effort is Andre Turrentine, a four-star defensive back from Nashville, Tenn., who announced his verbal commitment to Ohio State on Tuesday morning.

“I want to take the time to thank God, my parents, coaches, teammates and all of the people that have helped me to live my dreams,” he wrote in a note posted on Twitter. “I would also like to thank all of the coaches and schools who took their time and effort to recruit me. I have enjoyed each and every part of the recruiting process, and I have come to a decision. I will be committing to THE Ohio State University.”

Turrentine picked Ohio State from a final four that also included Tennessee, LSU and Alabama.

He told 247Sports.com the recent hire of Kerry Coombs as defensive coordinator had an impact on his decision, but he also credited Day and running backs coach Tony Alford.

“They have a great history there of great defensive backs and great teams and Coach Coombs coming back, that was really big,” he told the site. "He was the (Tennessee) Titans secondary coach and I live in Tennessee and I know about him quite a bit. We’re going to be the best DB class in the country. He told me that I needed to be a part of it.”

Turrentine is the No. 3 player in his home state and 136th nationally in 247Sports Composite rankings.

The nation’s No. 6 safety is the fourth defensive back to commit to Ohio State for 2021 and the third in the last three days.

Jakailin Johnson of St. Louis, Mo., committed on Sunday, and Devonta Smith of Cincinnati La Salle committed Monday. Jaylen Johnson, a teammate of Smith, committed on January.

On the other side of the ball, Ohio State added a verbal commitment from running back Evan Pryor of North Carolina on Tuesday.

Ohio State's 2021 class was already ranked No. 1 in the country before the flurry of pledges and consists of 14 members from seven different states.
