OHSAA restructures spring sports schedule in case schools reopen

Spring sports will be cancelled if schools remain closed through end of academic year

The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Wednesday if schools remain closed until the end of the academic year because of the coronavirus pandemic, spring sports will also be cancelled.

At the same time, the OHSAA has prepared a schedule for spring sports if schools reopen. Here’s what that would look like if schools reopen May 4:

• Baseball, lacrosse, softball, tennis and track and field would start May 9 after an acclimation period from May 4-8.

• Here are the dates of the state tournaments would be held: lacrosse, June 13; tennis, June 18-20; baseball, June 19-21; softball, June 25-27; and track and field, June 26-27.

• According to the OHSAA announcement, “if for any reason specific sites are shut down due to governor’s orders, ALL sites will be shut down and a tournament will not be held.”

• A no-contact order remains in place through May 1. No practices or group workouts may be held.
