Steve McElvene would have turned 22 on Tuesday. His former Dayton Flyers teammates didn’t forget.

“Happy birthday lil bro,” former UD guard Kyle Davis wrote on Instagram. “It still don't sit right with me that you’re not here. Love you bro. We gonna see each other again one day but today Imma turn up for you.”

“Happy birthday brother,” UD senior guard Darrell Davis wrote on Twitter. “Miss you kid.”

ARCHDEACON: Memory of McElvene touches hearts

McElvene, who set the UD single-season record for blocks in his only season on the court with the Flyers, died in May 2016 from an enlarged heart. Dayton honored him throughout the 2016-17 season, presenting his mom Jenell Shoals with his Atlantic 10 championship ring, wearing his No. 5 on the front of their jerseys and slapping hands with a cardboard cutout of McElvene before a NCAA tournament game against Wichita State.

Here’s a look at what some of McElvene’s other teammates had to say about him on his birthday:

😂😂 Happy birthday to my brother. Miss u boy 😪
