Prep Insider: Twin Valley South names new football coach

Clint Bartlett has been named the head football coach at Twin Valley South High School. It’s the first head coach position for Bartlett, previously an assistant at Beavercreek, Oakwood and Miami Trace and the son of former Carroll head coach Steve Bartlett.

TV South Athletic Director Tony Augspurger, also the boys basketball coach, said Bartlett is the Panthers’ seventh head coach since 2000.

“We’re hoping it is mutually a great fit and he can become the face of Twin Valley South football for a long time,” Augspurger said by email.

Bartlett succeeds Tyler Cates, who left after three seasons to succeed Dave Miller at Covington. TV South was 6-4 last season and is a Cross County Conference member. Steve Bartlett left Carroll to be come the head coach at Miami Trace in Washington Court House. This fall will be his fourth season with the Panthers.

• Travis Swank has been promoted to boys varsity basketball coach at Versailles. Swank has been a coach in the program since 2008 and was the Tigers’ JV coach from 2010-16. He succeeds Scott McEldowney, who resigned after a 10-year run (156-80 overall record), including a Division III state runner-up in 2013. Swank was a basketball standout at Franklin Monroe and also played at Wittenberg University.

Swank’s promotion is at least the fourth new MAC boys coach for the 2016-17 season. Nick Fisher also was promoted to succeed Mike Bruns at Coldwater. Fisher previously was the Cavaliers’ girls head coach. Mike McClurg was promoted to succeed Mike Lee at Minster. Lee resigned after 23 seasons as the Cavs’ all-time career wins leader (314).

Rick Hickman resigned at Parkway following this past season and has been succeeded by Panthers athletic director Doug Hughes. He previously submitted his resignation as AD effective after the school year in June.

• Springboro graduate and Wichita State University senior Meghan Schuetz Jack completed rounds of 79-73-76-228 in the Missouri Valley Conference women’s golf championship at Chicago last week to help the Shockers win their third straight conference title.

Jack was 11th overall and WSU set a tourney record with a three-day total of 884 at Harborside International Port Course. It was Jack’s sixth top-20 placing this season and 15th in her Shockers career. She also was named All-MVC for the second time.

• Todd Winchester has been approved as the boys varsity soccer coach at Milton-Union. A 1986 Northmont grad, Winchester has coached the Northmont boys reserve B team the past three seasons. Previously he coached numerous Dayton Gunner FC youth teams.

“Coach Winchester’s love of the game and skill set of fundamentals, organization and enthusiasm will be a tremendous asset to our program,” Bulldogs athletic Director Tom Koogler said in a statement. “We are very glad to have him on board.”

• Tri-Village boys basketball coach and school superintendent Josh Sagester has developed home-grown talent. His daughter Rylee recently was the Elks National Hoop Shoot runner-up in the 10-11 age division. Sagester reported she made 23 of 25 free throws to tie for first and lost a four-round shoot-off. The competition was held at Chicago.

• Coldwater defeated Celina 2-1 last week, marking the 400th career win for Cavaliers baseball coach Brian Harlamert.
