2017 highlights: Tagged with the cruelest fate, finishing ninth and one spot out of qualifying for the postseason. That snapped a streak of two straight playoff teams. Bad timing cost Carlisle as much as anything; beaten foes Miami Trace, Waynesville and Northridge all were 1-9.
Rebounded from a season-opening pounding by rival Franklin to win five straight, including a 43-41 OT shootout defeat of Oakwood and a 34-7 Week 6 win at Preble Shawnee. Losses to Madison (11-3) and Milton-Union (4-6) followed, knocking Carlisle out of playoff contention. Took out Eaton and Dixie in Weeks 9-10 to tie Preble Shawnee for runner-up in the Buckeye Division and build momentum for 2018.

A four-season contract with Miami Trace has ended. Instead, Carlisle will host Springfield Kenton Ridge (6-4) of the Central Buckeye Conference in Week 2.
Also, Eaton (3-7) is bumped with a Week 5 visit to Brookville (6-4) in the SWBL crossover rotation.

Fun facts: The other Carlisle (Pa.) Indians have a storied place in early football history. That's where Pop Warner introduced the world to Jim Thorpe and proved college football thrived at programs other than Harvard and Yale.
Thorpe would become one of the world’s most recognized athletes after starring in the 1912 summer Olympics at Stockholm. Many of his Native American teammates at Carlisle joined him with the Canton Bulldogs in what served as the NFL precursor.
