Ready for some football? Ohio State releases blips and clips as media blackout continues

Aside from one short viewing window early last week that coincided with the Big Ten Network's annual day of access, the local press has not been allowed to see anything the Buckeyes are doing on the field this preseason.

Interviews with players and coaches have also been suspended until further notice, an understandable precaution given the sensitive nature of the investigation into what Meyer and others knew about the domestic abuse allegations against former assistant Zach Smith.

(Typically there would be 2-4 viewing windows and a dozen or more interview opportunities during preseason camp.)

The football team’s social media team has had lots of work, though.

They have released several videos of practice, snapshots from the field that are better than nothing for fans hungry for football and reporters needing to hit web traffic goals.

Among the clips shared so far is one of Springfield native Demetrius Knox taking on Dre’Mont Jones, a defensive lineman who has been praised as having one of the best offseasons among Buckeyes.

There was also a brief clip of expected starting quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. hooking up with Binjimen Victor on a jump ball, a play that could be a favorite in the red zone this season.

Haskins also showed off his touch on the deep ball with a connection with Austin Mack.

The cameras are also following the team and coaches off the field.

How about this can’t-miss shot of defensive line coach Larry Johnson biking into practice?

And while the Buckeyes are no doubt anxious to get their head coach back, it looks like they are still able to have some fun in his absence.

Here’s cornerback Jeffrey Okudah impersonating cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson.

Ohio State placed Meyer on leave August 1 and has said it hopes to wrap up its investigation by August 19.

The Buckeyes are set to open the season Sept. 1 at home against Oregon State.
