Powell is a four-star recruit who ranks 84th in the 2021 class, according to ESPN. He ranks 152nd in the 247Sports.com composite rankings. He’s also considering the University of Texas-San Antonio, North Carolina A&T, Hampton and Old Dominion.
Dayton offered Powell, who’s from DeSoto, Texas, a scholarship in July. He originally committed to Arkansas in September 2019 but reopened his recruitment in April. He averaged 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists as a junior at DeSoto High School.
Dayton filled one scholarship in the 2021 class with the commitment of Malachi Smith in August. Assuming it doesn’t fill the one open scholarship in the 2020-21 season, it has four open for the 2021-22 season.
