They join join a roster that includes six former Flyers: Devin Oliver; Kendall Pollard; Kyle Davis; Darrell Davis; Ryan Mikesell; and Trey Landers. The team will be coached by former Dayton walk-on Joey Gruden for the second straight year.’

Spearman, a 6-foot-3 guard from Chicago, played the 2010-11 season at Dayton, averaging 2.5 points in 36 games. He then transferred to Hawaii, where he averaged 10.5 points in two seasons.

Spearman has played professional basketball in Germany, the Czech Republic, France, Egypt, Finland and most recently Qatar.

Scott, a 6-9 forward from Columbus, averaged 3.6 points as a sophomore for Dayton’s Elite Eight team in 2014 but was dismissed from the program nine games into his junior year, along with fellow junior forward Jalen Robinson, who played for the Red Scare in 2020.

Spearman was a member of Dayton’s 2010 recruiting class along with Oliver. Scott played with Oliver, Pollard, Kyle Davis and Darrell Davis.

While the 64-team bracket has not been announced, it’s expected Dayton will play in the Columbus Regional, which will take place July 23-27 at Ohio State’s Covelli Center.

If the Red Scare can win three games, it would advance to the quarterfinals, which will be held at UD Arena along with the semifinals and championship game. Those games will take place from July 31-Aug. 3.

Last year, the Red Scare, seeded eighth in the tournament, lost to the No. 4 seed Golden Eagles, a team of Marquette alums, 79-70 in the semifinals in Columbus. The Golden Eagles won the $1 million prize by beating Sideline Cancer in the championship game.

The Red Scare debuted in 2019, winning two games at Capital University before losing to Carmen’s Crew, a group of Ohio State alums that won the championship that year.
