Reds catcher Barnhart wins second Gold Glove

Reds pitcher Sonny Gray and catcher Tucker Barnhart return to the dugout after warming up before a game against the Indians on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart won the National League Gold Glove award on Tuesday. It’s the second Gold Glove he has won in seven seasons in the big leagues.

Barnhart also won the Gold Glove in 2017. He was the first Reds catcher to win the award since Johnny Bench in 1977. Bench was a 10-time Gold Glove winner.

Barnhart, 29, debuted with the Reds in 2014. He started 33 of 60 games in 2020 and threw out eight of 22 runners stealing bases.

Barnhart was a Gold Glove finalist in 2020 along with Wilson Contreras, of the Chicago Cubs, and Jacob Stallings, of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
