Reds game suspended by rain, snow with Diamondbacks leading in eighth

That’s how the night ended for the Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks as they started a three-game series. The game was suspended with the Diamondbacks leading 5-4.

The game will resume at the same point at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday. The Diamondbacks will have the bases loaded with one out.

The second game of the series will not start any earlier than the original start time of 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Fans who had tickets for the Tuesday game can attend the conclusion of the game on Wednesday.

Earlier in the game Tuesday, the Reds overcame a 3-0 deficit and took the lead on a two-run, two-out home run by Kyle Farmer in the sixth. The lead lasted until the eighth when Tejay Antone gave up a lead-off home run to Andrew Young.

Amir Garrett took over for Antone and gave up a walk and a double before being replaced by Sims. By that point, the drizzle that started earlier in the night had turned into a hard rain. The umpires elected to keep the game going and got a line out for the first out but then hit a batter to load the bases. By the time, he got to a 3-2 count on Carson Kelly, the rain was falling harder than ever. He walked Kelly to bring in the go-ahead run.

Manager David Bell came out at that point to protest the fact that the game was still going. The umpire threw several balls to Sims, who tossed them back because they were so wet. Finally, the umpire called out the grounds crew. An hour later, by which point the rain had turned to snow, the game was suspended.
