Reds honor Scooter Gennett with bevy of gifts

The Cincinnati Reds celebrated one of the greatest offensive performances in baseball history Friday, honoring Scooter Gennett 10 days after he hit four home runs and drove in 10 runs in a game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

In a pregame ceremony at Great American Ball Park, the Reds replayed Gennett’s four home runs on the big screen as he watched with General Manager Dick Williams and Chief Operating Officer Phil Castellini. Zach Thompson, 12, who caught the home run, was also on hand.

HAL McCOY: A night to remember

The Reds presented Gennett with a number of gifts:

• A new scooter, which Tom Browning rode from center field around the warning track to present to Gennett. Browning owns the greatest single-game pitching performance in Reds history, a perfect game in 1988.

• A shadow box containing Gennett’s jersey, hat, and fourth home run baseball, the lineup card from the game and a letter of congratulations from Commissioner Rob Manfred.

• A custom engraved watch for being awarded National League Player of the Week.

• A home plate and bat commemorating the night.
