The Cincinnati Reds promoted one of their top pitching prospects, 2017 first-round pick Hunter Greene, to the Triple-A Louisville Bats on Tuesday. Greene will start Thursday when the Bats play on the road in Omaha, Neb.

Greene was 5-0 with a 1.98 ERA in seven starts with Double-A Chattanooga. He struck out 60 batters in 41 innings.

Greene, 21, was the second overall pick four years ago. He started his pro career at the rookie level with Billings (Mont.) in 2017. In his first full season, he was 3-7 with a 4.48 ERA in 18 starts for the Single-A Dayton Dragons in 2018.

Greene underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019. When he made his 2021 debut on May 5, he not pitched in a game since July 26, 2018.

Entering this season, Greene ranked second among Reds prospects on a MLB.com list of the Reds’ top-30 prospects.
