The Cincinnati Reds announced Friday first-round pick Nick Lodolo has reached his innings limit and won’t pitch again this season.

Lodolo made eight starts and threw 18 1/3 innings between the Rookie League in Billings (Mont.) and the Single-A Dayton Dragons. He also threw 103 innings earlier this year in his final season at Texas Christian.

Lodolo had a 2.45 ERA with 30 strikeouts in his first season in pro baseball.

Lodolo, the 18th first-round pick to play for the Dragons, made two starts for the Dragons. He allowed one earned run in three innings July 25 and one earned run in four innings Tuesday.

The Reds drafted Lodolo with the seventh overall pick in June. He was the first pitcher selected.
