Report: Bengals signing Bernard to two-year contract extension

The Cincinnati Bengals are locking up running back Giovani Bernard to a two-year, $10.3 million contract extension, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

Bernard will get a bump to $5.9 million this season, then $5.5 million per year in 2020 and 2021, according to Pelissero. Bernard was set to become a free agent after this season.

Bernard, 27, has been productive as a change of pace back for the Bengals, rushing for 3,111 yards and 19 TDs in 83 career games. The 5-foot-9, 205 pounder also has 265 receptions for 2,278 yards and eight scores.

The Bengals open the season Sunday at Seattle.
