The Cincinnati Reds are trading veteran infielder Kyle Farmer.

Farmer, 32, is on his way to the Minnesota Twins, the team announced Friday. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was the first to report the trade.

Farmer spent the last four seasons with the Reds. In 2022, Farmer started 142 games. He hit .255 with 14 home runs and 78 RBI.

Farmer was second-year arbitration eligible and is projected to make close to $6 million in 2023.

The Reds received minor-league pitcher Casey Legumina from the Twins in the deal.

In a second move Friday night, the Reds acquired infielder Kevin Newman, 29, from the Pirates in exchange for relief pitcher Dauri Moreta.

Newman was the Pirates’ opening-day starter at shortstop the last three seasons. Newman only made 78 appearances last season due to a groin injury, but hit .278.

Moreta had a 5.14 ERA in 39 games for the Reds over two seasons.
