Reports: Wright State Hall of Famer finds a new home in the NBA

Vitaly Potapenko is a former professional basketball player, and now coach, who got his start playing for Wright State. After his time at the university, he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1996, and eventually went on to play for the Boston Celtics, Seattle Supersonics, and Sacramento Kings.

Former Wright State star Vitaly Potapenko is moving on and moving up in the NBA.

Multiple reports indicate he is leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to take a new position with the Memphis Grizzlies.

 

He had been with the Cavs since 2013 as a member of the player development staff.

He’ll be on the coaching staff at Memphis.

Potapenko was Wright State’s MVP in 1995 and ’96.

The dominating big man known as “The Ukraine Train” was inducted into the school’s athletics hall of fame in 2001.

Three of his 11 NBA seasons as a player were spent with the Cavs.
