Dayton Christian pulled ahead in the final minutes to pull off a 40-38 win versus Greeneview in a Division III boys basketball sectional opener at Butler on Thursday.

Jake Deason, Devin Dreier and Isaiah Edwards each made foul shots down the stretch to secure the victory.

Edwards scored eight of his 13 points in the second half to pace Dayton Christian and Dreier hauled in 11 defensive rebounds.

Dayton Christian moves on to face Preble Shawnee on Tuesday at Butler.

Girls Basketball

Chaminade Julienne 37, Alter 30: Jordyn Varise paced Chaminade Julienne with 15 points.

Delphos SJ’s 45, McComb 43: Aubrie Friemoth set a school record for three-point baskets in a season for DSJ.

Franklin Monroe 68, Newton 14: Stella Shellabarger scored 16 points to lead four players in double-digit scoring for FM, which tied a school record with 14 three-point baskets. Brooke Deeter paced Newton with 10 points.

Mechanicsburg 73, Mississinawa Valley 22: Kasey Schipfer dropped in 21 points, Grace Forrest added 13 and Morgan Hamby and Alana Kramer 10 apiece to lead ‘Burg.

Troy Christian 27, Bradford 22: Sara Earhart chipped in 19 points to pace Troy Christian, which went on a 9-0 run in the final quarter to take the lead. Austy Miller led Bradford with 10 points.

DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

Division II at Beaver-Vu: Ethan Edwards rolled a 698 series, including a 299 game, and Eli Mayberry a 694 series to lead Mechanicsburg in the win. Urbana, Mississinawa Valley and Greenon also qualified for the state tournament. Individually Brandon Kreitzer of Valley View and Jason Stiens of Badin advanced.

DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

Division II at Beaver-Vu: Greenon shot a 4124 to win the tournament, led by runner-up Makenzie Gossett’s 687 series. Urbana placed second, Mechanicsburg third and Ben Logan fourth to advance to the state tournament. Elena Bulcher of Fort Loramie rolled the high series of 718 to qualify individually along with Allison Popp of Alter, Jalan Martin of Indian Lake and Mackenzie Singer of Ansonia.

SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT

Division I at Poelking South: Brynn Noffsinger bowled the top series of 602 to help Bellefontaine finish first with a 3671. Xenia rolled a 3654 and Springfield 3592. Beavercreek, Northmont, Fairborn, Wayne, Centerville, Troy and Tecumseh also qualified for the district tournament.

Division I at Crossgate: Lebanon placed second with a 3102, Ross fourth at 3032 and Middletown fifth with a 2986 to advance. Hannah Rearick led Lebanon with a 535 series, good for second place.
