HS Roundup 10/22: Monroe’s Griffis scores game-winner in final minute

Ben Griffis broke a scoreless tie with 35 seconds to play to lead unbeaten Monroe to a 1-0 district semifinal win versus Oakwood in boys soccer on Tuesday.

Griffis scored off a Zach Hamdan assist and keeper Adam Duff nailed down the shutout.

Monroe improved to 16-0-2 and will face Indian Hill with a district title on the line on Saturday at Edgewood, 7 p.m.

Division I

Beavercreek 6, Butler 0: Six different players scored goals for ‘Creek, which moves on to a district final versus Lakota East on Saturday.

Centerville 3, Northmont 0: Thomas Maley put Centerville on the board and Matt Fahrenkamp netted the next two goals. Centerville moves on to a district final versus Lakota West on Saturday.

Carroll 9, Springfield 0: Conner Osterholt booted three goals and Ben Del Cid tacked on four assists for unbeaten Carroll in a district semifinal.

Springboro 5, Troy 1: ‘Boro pulled away with four second-half goals in this district semifinal.

Division II

Alter 5, Ross 1: Kenny Kohnen drove in two goals with one assist to lead the way for Alter. Jackson Frericks added two assists and Alter advanced to a district final against Tippecanoe on Saturday.

Division III

Botkins 4, Jackson Center 0: Botkins scored twice in a span of a minute to pull away from Jackson Center in this district semifinal.

West Liberty-Salem 2, Bethel 1: Caleb Siegenthaler and Gavin Anderson accounted for the WLS goals. Nick Schmidt had the lone goal for Bethel.

Troy 3, Beavercreek 2: Troy rallied from a two-set deficit, winning the final set 15-12 to advance to a third consecutive district final.

Division IV

Fort Loramie 3, Troy Christian 0: Maya Maurer recorded 35 assists, McKenzie Hoelscher 15 kills and Macy Imwalle 15 digs to lead Fort Loramie in this district semifinal.
