HS Roundup 2/14: Morris reaches 2,000 career points in sectional win

Mikala Morris went over the 2,000 career point mark while leading Kenton Ridge to a 77-27 victory versus Stivers in a Division II girls basketball sectional opener on Thursday.

Morris, a Quinnipiac basketball recruit who became the state’s all-time rebounds leader earlier this season, poured in 38 points. Kirsten Wiley added 10.

Kenton Ridge moves on to face the winner of Saturday’s Northwestern/Springfield Shawnee sectional on Tuesday at Springfield.

Alter 51, Oakwood 38: Makayla Blount scored 12 points to help Alter hold off an Oakwood rally. Lauren Hapgood chipped in 24 points for Oakwood.

Division III

Versailles 70, Urbana 21: Caitlin McEldowney hit six three-pointers on the way to 20 points to pace Versailles.

Regular Season

Fort Recovery 42, New Bremen 39: Kierra Wendel scored 12 points and Alli Vaughn 11 to lead Fort Recovery. Madison Cordonnier had 13 points for New Bremen.

Lehman Catholic 49, Ridgemont 35: Shaylee McGrath led the way for Lehman Catholic with 16 points.

Marion Local 40, Coldwater 39: Heidi Rethman totaled 13 points to lead Marion Local. Alli May paced Coldwater with 14 points and Lauren Gilliland hauled in 15 rebounds.

Tri-Village 45, Russia 33: Maddie Downing recorded 15 points and Emma Printz 12 for Tri-Village. Laurissa Poling led Russia with 10 points.
