HS Roundup 1/2: Smith paces Alter in win versus rival CJ

Alter boys basketball returned from the holiday break in winning fashion, edging rival Chaminade Julienne 54-52 in a close contest all the way through on Thursday.

Jack Smith led the way with 22 points, including the game-winning layup off a Brady Uhl assist with six seconds to play.

Uhl and Conor Stolly finished with 10 points apiece.

Larry Turner led CJ with 14 points and Brandon Gibson and A.J. Solomon each added 10.

The win, a sixth straight since dropping the season-opener in overtime at McNicholas, moved Alter to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Girls Basketball

Arcanum 76, Twin Valley South 22: Hailey Unger and Kayla O’Daniel combined for 41 points to pace Arcanum, which improved to 6-0 in conference play.

Bradford 66, Tri-County North 17: Austy Miller scored 18 points to help Bradford move to 8-2.

Coldwater 46, Parkway 31: Lauren Gilliland led the way with 21 points and 14 rebounds and Kate Leichty tacked on 11 points for Coldwater.

Colerain 57, Middletown 47: Sa’Mill Calhoun scored 22 points and KeKe Gregory 10 in a losing effort for Middletown.

Covington 42, Newton 29: Claudia Harrington had 15 points and Morgan Kimmel 14 to pace Covington. Madalynn Hughes led Newton with 13 points.

Fort Recovery 43, Minster 36: Val Muhlenkamp chipped in 11 points for Fort Recovery, which moved to 7-2 while beating Minster for the first time since 2012. Ivey Wolfe paced Minster with 14 points.

Franklin Monroe 63, National Trail 31: Chloe McGlinch totaled 21 points and Corina Conley 17 for FM, which moved to 10-1. Skyler Ward had 14 points for National Trail.

Lakota East 53, Fairborn 36: Sarah Sewak provided a spark off the bench with 10 points for Lakota East. Natalie Oktavec netted 18 points for Fairborn.

Lehman Catholic 43, Jackson Center 35: Anna Cianciolo recorded 16 points in leading Lehman Catholic.

Marion Local 67, St. Henry 63, OT: Heidi Rethman and Sammy Hoelscher led the way for Marion Local with 44 points combined.

Tri-Village 76, Bethel 31: Four players scored in double digits for unbeaten Tri-Village, led by a 20-point performance from Maddie Downing.

Valley View 65, Madison 39: Lauren Legate led four players in double-digit scoring for Valley View with 15 points. Kailee Ramps added 11 and Claire Henson and Aubrey Stupp 10 apiece.

Versailles 53, New Bremen 25: Lindsey Winner scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half and Brooke Stonebraker tacked on 13 points for Versailles.

West Jefferson 59, Triad 53: Frani LeVan tallied 17 points, Cati LeVan added 13 and Liv Butz 12 in the loss for Triad.

Yellow Springs 60, East Dayton Christian 43: Angie Smith poured in a career-high 40 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds for Yellow Springs.
