Scoochie Smith finds new team in Europe

Former Dayton Flyers point guard Scoochie Smith will spend his sixth season in professional basketball in Poland.

Start Lublin, of the Polish Basketball League, announced the signing of Smith, a 2017 UD graduate, on Sunday. The team opened the 2022-23 season Friday.

Lublin, the ninth-largest city in Poland, is located on the east side of the country and is 107 miles from the capital, Warsaw.

Smith played the last two seasons with Mega Basket in Serbia. He has also played in Australia, Greece and the NBA G League.

Smith returned to Dayton last summer to play for the UD alumni team, the Red Scare, in The Basketball Tournament.

In other Dayton alumni news

Vee Sanford, a 2014 UD graduate, signed Sept. 16 with Unieuro Forlì with Italy. It will be his second straight season in that country. He played for Victoria Libertas Pesaro last season.

• Ryan Mikesell, who played for Dayton from 2015-20, had 15 points Friday in his debut in France’s top division. He signed with ESSM Le Portel in June after playing in Germany last season.

Darrell Davis, a 2018 UD graduate, signed with Juventus in Lithuania earlier this month. He played in Kosovo last season.
