Scoochie Smith returns to Ohio to play in G League

Former Dayton point guard debuted for Canton on Saturday

Scoochie Smith has not only returned to the United States after a season in Australia, he’s back in Ohio.

The Canton Charge, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ affiliate in the NBA G League announced Saturday it had signed Smith, the former Dayton Flyers point guard. He had five points, six assists, four rebounds and one turnover in 25 minutes off the bench Saturday in a 115-106 loss to the Delaware 87ers in Canton.  Canton has seven more regular-season games.

Smith started his professional career with the Cairns Taipans in Australia and averaged 10.2 points and 2.3 assists in 27 games. Their season ended in February.

Smith ranks 28th in Dayton in career points (1,273). He was the only player to appear in every game the past four seasons at Dayton.
