Second Reds pitcher makes National League All-Star team

It appeared that streak would end when only Luis Castillo was selected in the initial announcement, but a second Reds starting pitcher, Sonny Gray, was named to the team late Saturday as a replacement for Washington Nationals starter Max Scherzer, who pitched Saturday.

The Reds have had at least two All-Stars every season since 2009.

Gray is 5-5 with a 3.59 ERA in 17 starts in his first season with the Reds, who acquired him from the New York Yankees in January.

This will be Gray’s second All-Star Game appearance. He made the American League team in 2015 when he was 14-7 with a 2.73 ERA with the Oakland A’s.

The All-Star Game takes place Tuesday at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
