Chris Woeber, operations manager, said the company had been chasing the deal with Great American Ball Park for some time. It finally completed the contract this spring.
They’ll supply both the milder Woeber’s Dusseldorf mustard and spicier Mister Mustard Original, a brand the company acquired five years ago.
“We think it’s a great fit, and we’re super excited about it,” Woeber said.
Woeber, who attended the 1990 World Series as a child, called it a thrill to see his family’s products associated with the Cincinnati Reds.
“We’re all big Reds fans,” Woeber said.
The company was founded in 1905. Woeber said the link to the Reds brand will help the business place itself in the minds of Ohio residents.
Mister Mustard Original is making its return to Reds baseball after being served at the old Crosley Field in the team’s earlier years.
The previous mustard supplier, Wisconsin-based Uncle Phil’s, was ousted because of over-packaging. The company told the Cincinnati Enquirer it supplied the stadium with 900 gallons of mustard per year.
Woeber’s Spicy Mustard was one of six mustards that competed in a taste test when the new stadium opened in 2003. Uncle Phil’s won the taste test, and it served as supplier for a decade.
Woeber said change, especially in baseball, can be tricky.
“We’re hoping people get a chance to try it and enjoy it,” Woeber said.
The Woeber’s mustards were only available at selected locations at Great American Ball Park on Saturday. Uncle Phil’s Mustard was also still available, along with the Heinz yellow mustard.
Pam Schutte, of Hamilton, said she liked the Woeber’s Dusseldorf brand better than the old mustard.
“It is good, very good,” she said. “This is a lot tangier.”
