“I’m thrilled to become a member of a Springfield Wildcat community rich in tradition,” McCullough said in a press release. “It is an honor to lead the SHS boys basketball program in the 2020-21 season, and I look forward to working with the student-athletes to generate success on and off the court.”
McCullough is a Dayton native. He began his coaching career in 2004 at Sinclair Community College as an assistant coah. He has also served as an assistant coach at Middletown High School and the head coach at Stivers.
Springfield announced in early June it would interview five candidates for the job. The others were Wildcats interim coach Matt Yinger; former Grove City coach Greg Waits; former Dublin Jerome coach Jamie Pearson; and Richmond (Ind.) coach Mohammad Khaliq.
Longtime coach Isaiah Carson was placed on leave last season after being arrested for domestic violence. He later resigned from his post.
