Springfield High School senior quarterback Te’Sean Smoot finished second in voting for the Ohio Mr. Football award.

Medina senior quarterback Drew Allar was named the winner of the 35th annual Ohio Mr. Football award, which is voted on by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association, the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Thursday. Upper Arlington running back Carson Gresock finished third.

The other finalists were: Marysville linebacker Gabe Powers; St. Clairsville offensive lineman Avery Henry; West Lafayette Ridgewood quarterback Gabe Tingle; Archbold quarterback D.J. Newman; Mount Orab Western Brown quarterback Drew Novak; and LaGrange Keystone running back/linebacker Gideon Lampron.

Smoot was also named the Division I co-offensive player of the year on Thursday.

Smoot, a three-year starter, threw for 3,006 yards and ran for 973 in 15 games. He ran for 23 scores and passed for 21 touchdowns.

In his final game against Lakewood St. Edward, Smoot completed 29 of 43 passes for 349 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in a 23-13 loss. He also ran for a score.

Smoot was part of a senior class that finished their careers with a 42-8 record. That included three trips to the state semifinals and the school’s first appearance in the championship game.

Allar threw for 4,444 yards and 48 touchdowns and ran for 382 yards and nine scores.
