State football polls: Badin cracks D-III top 10, knocks Alter out

Coldwater and Marion Local of the Midwest Athletic Conference retained their top spots and Badin cracked the top 10 for the first time in the Week 7 high school football state polls that were released by the Associated Press on Monday.

Coldwater (6-0) has been No. 1 all season in Division VI. Marion Local (5-1) has been No. 1 in D-VII since the second week of the polls. Marion Local will host Coldwater in the Week 10 regular-season finale in what should decide the MAC championship.

Badin (4-2) won its fourth straight game with a convincing 42-7 rout of Greater Catholic League Co-Ed rival and visiting Alter (4-2) last week. That snapped the Rams’ 22-game losing skid to the Knights. Badin hadn’t beaten Alter since 1999.

Badin tied another GCL Co-Ed rival, Chaminade Julienne (5-1) for No. 10 in D-III and Alter dropped out of the D-III poll. Badin is at CJ in a Week 7 GCL Co-Ed showdown on Friday.

Trotwood-Madison (5-1) is No. 6 in D-III. The Rams have won five straight since losing their opener to Cincinnati Winton Woods, which is No. 10 in D-II.

Fairfield (6-0) drew a pair of first-place votes and at No. 4 is the only Greater Miami Conference team among the D-I top 10. Springboro (6-0) and Springfield (5-1) of the Greater Western Ohio Conference are ranked 9-10 in D-I. Springfield is at Springboro on Friday. Springfield has lost only to visiting Fairfield 16-12 in Week 2.

Clinton-Massie (5-1) drew one first-place vote and is No. 4 in D-IV. Valley View (5-1) and Waynesville (5-1) of the Southwestern Buckeye League are No. 8 and 10 in D-IV.

West Jefferson (6-0) and West Liberty-Salem (6-0) of the Ohio Heritage Conference are ranked No. 4 and 10 in D-V. West Jeff is at WL-Salem in Week 8.

Three MAC teams are among the top 10 in D-VI: top-ranked Coldwater, No. 5 Anna (5-1) and Minster (5-1) is tied for No. 7. Mechanicsburg (5-1), also of the OHC, is No. 10 after falling to West Jefferson in Week 6.

Joining Marion Local among ranked D-VII teams are No. 7 Fort Loramie (5-1) of the Cross County Conference and No. 8 New Miami (5-0) of the Miami Valley Conference.

The weekly Associated Press state football polls are voted on by subscribing media throughout the state. The weekly Ohio High School Athletic Association computer rankings will be released on Tuesday.
