COLUMBUS — Wayne High School senior Sanai Lynch won a Division I state championship in the long jump on Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Lynch clinched the title with her final jump, a personal record: 19 feet, 0¼ inches.

“It was crazy,” she said. “I was praying. It takes one jump. I popped that 19 and still had my fingers crossed.”

No one topped her. Amari Kiluvia, of Westerville Central, finished second (18-11½).

“I’m excited,” Lynch said. “I’m pumped.”

Lynch jumped 18-2¾ at the regional meet. That made her the No. 2 seed.

Last year, Lynch made it to state but competed with an injury and finished 13th (16-10¾). This year, she was healthy and jumped 17-11¾, 18-10¼ and 17-11½ before the big jump. She also fouled twice in six attempts.

Wayne had several other athletes place in finals Saturday:

• Aamil Wagner won a state title in the shot put (64-1).

• Drew Martin, Elijah Lee, Noah Paxton and Terrell Ball placed eighth in the 4x200-meter relay (1:28.16).

• Freshman Trinity Bibbs placed fourth in the 100 (11.91) and third in the 200 (24.46).
