Suarez sets another record with his 49th home run of the season

Eugenio Suarez, of the Cincinnati Reds, hit his 49th home run Wednesday, breaking the National League record for most home runs in a season by a third baseman.

Through four innings, the Reds trailed the Milwaukee Brewers 8-2 at Great American Ball Park in the second-to-last home game of the season.

The home run came one week after Suarez hit his 48th home run.  He joined Mike Schmidt (1980) and Adrian Beltre (2004) as the only National League third baseman to hit 48 home runs in a season. The big-league record for home runs by a third baseman is 52 and was set by Alex Rodriguez in 2007.

The home run by Suarez was the 222nd of the season for the Reds, who tied the single-season club record, which was set in 2005. Twelve other teams have tied or broken club records for home runs this season.
