More than six years after he enjoyed two Senior Nights with the Dayton Flyers, Jordan Sibert will return to UD Arena to compete in The Basketball Tournament’s shooting contest.

The event, called the 33-Point Contest, will award $33,333 to the winner. It will take place at 2 p.m. on Aug. 1 and will be televised by ESPN. Shooters go head-to-head in a bracket format. The first shooter to make 11 3-pointers advances.

The eight competitors — two from each regional — will shoot between the first TBT semifinal, which takes place at noon, and the second at 2:30 p.m.

Sibert could also be playing with the Red Scare that day. The Dayton alumni team starts play in the TBT at 3 p.m. Saturday and has to win three games in four days to reach the quarterfinals at UD Arena. If it advances to the semifinals, it would play in the semifinal that takes place after the 33-Point Contest.

Sibert scored 1,030 points in two seasons at Dayton and helped lead the Flyers to the Elite Eight as a junior and to a 27-9 season as a senior when the Flyers beat Boise State and then Providence before losing to Oklahoma. In his final season in 2014-15, he was honored on Senior Night and then played at home again in the First Four, making the go-ahead 3-pointer in the final minute against Boise State.

The other seven shooters in the contest will be:

Jeff Ledbetter (The Money Team): He shot 45.4 percent from 3-point range at Idaho as a senior in 2010-11.

Ot Elmore (Herd That): He played two seasons at Marshall and was one of the standout players in the TBT in 2020.

Chris Moore (Primetime Players): He scored 1,106 points in four seasons at Charleston Southern.

Anthony Mathis (The Enchantment): He scored 1,244 points in four seasons at New Mexico and one at Oregon.

» RED SCARE: Dayton alums start play Saturday

Conner Frankamp (AfterShocks): He made 164 3-pointers in three seasons at Wichita State.

Mike Daum (House of ‘Paign): He’s the seventh-leading scorer in NCAA Division history. He finished his career at South Dakota State in 2019 with 3,067 points.

Omar Strong (B1 Ballers): He averaged 15.1 points in two seasons at Texas Southern (2011-13).
