Red Scare coaches Joey Gruden and Jeremiah Bonsu have spread the minutes among their 10 players, knowing they would need fresh legs for three games in four days and potentially six games in 10 days in The Basketball Tournament.

Everyone played at least 10 minutes Tuesday in a 62-56 victory against the No. 2 seed Golden Eagles in the second round. No one played more than 27 minutes. It was a similar story in the first round Sunday in a 75-70 victory against No. 6 CitiTeam.

“We keep telling these guys we’re 10 deep,” Bonsu said. “At the end of the first half, we thought our bench guys — like C.J. (Walker) and Trey (Landers) — had us going well, so we played them. Then in the third quarter, they were sitting and they accepted that and it motivated them. Then in the same way, we went on a really long extended run in the third quarter with the same lineup, and everyone believed in it.”

The Money Team, the No. 1 seed in the Dayton Region and the No. 3 seed Red Scare’s opponent at 7 p.m. Wednesday at UD Arena in the round of 16, don’t go as deep. They had seven players receive between 13 and 34 minutes Tuesday in 92-75 victory against the Purdue alumni team, Men of Mackey.

Two of the former Atlantic 10 Conference players on The Money Team’s roster — Peyton Aldridge (Davidson) and Cyril Langevine (Rhode Island) — have not played in the first two games.

The Money Team does not have ties to a specific university as many of the TBT teams do. Boxer Floyd Mayweather formed the team in 2020. It has the same name as auto racing team he sponsors.

The Money Team has an older roster than the Red Scare, whose oldest player is Vee Sanford, 31. Its also a roster with more NBA experience. Jordan Sibert is the only Red Scare player who made it to the NBA.

The Money Team’s leading scorer through two games, 33-year-old Jimmer Fredette (25.0 points per game), was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft after leading the nation in scoring as a senior at Brigham Young. He was the national player of the year that season. He last played in the NBA in the 2018-19 season and played last season in China.

Mitchell Creek, 30, a native of Australia who played five games in the NBA in the 2018-19 season, has 33 points in two games.

Former Clemson star Trevor Booker, 34, who played in the NBA from 2010-18, has 25 points.

Xavier Munford, 30, has 15 points. He led Rhode Island in scoring for two seasons (2012-14) and appeared in 20 games in the NBA in two seasons (2015-16 and 2017-18).

The Money Team also has Cincinnati native Jordon Crawford, 32, on the roster. He scored 1,212 points in four seasons at Bowling Green. He played in Turkey last season. He has 15 points.

Tickets for the game Wednesday are going for half price. The game will air on ESPN2.

The winner plays in the quarterfinals at 9 p.m. Friday against the West Virginia Region champion. The East Tennessee State alumni team (Bucketneers) and West Virginia alumni team (Best Virginia) also play at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
