Top-ranked JUCO recruiting Wendell Mitchell considering Dayton Flyers

The top-ranked junior-college player in the country is considering the Dayton Flyers.

Wendell Mitchell, a 6-foot-3 guard at Trinity Valley Community College, listed Dayton among his top-five college choices in a Twitter post Sunday night. Texas A&M, Southern Methodist, San Diego State and Grand Canyon also made his list.

Cincinnati, Memphis, Georgetown, Oregon and Maryland were among the other schools to offer Mitchell a scholarship.

Dayton has five scholarships open after the departures of Xeyrius Williams, Matej Svoboda, Kostas Antetokounmpo, John Crosby and Jordan Pierce.

Mitchell, originally from Rockdale, Texas, has two years of eligibility remaining. He averaged 19.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game as a sophomore at Trinity Valley in Athens, Texas. He shot 48.9 percent from the field, 36.5 percent from 3-point range and 83.8 percent from the free-throw line.

JucoRecruiting.com ranks Mitchell No. 1 in the class of 2018. He ranks No. 2 in the country, according to 247Sports.com's juco rankings.

Mitchell spent one season at Trinity Valley. He played his freshman season at Baylor in 2016-17, averaging 2.9 points in 8.2 minutes per game. He redshirted as a freshman at Baylor in 2015-16 after a high-school career in which he scored 3,144 points in 123 games. He ranked 180th in the class of 2015, according to 247Sports.com.
