Quinn Ewers will start his Ohio State Buckeyes career a year early

Quinn Ewers, the top-ranked prospect in the 2022 recruiting class for the Ohio State Buckeyes, announced Monday he will leave Southlake Carroll High School in Texas and start his college career this month.

“Over the past few weeks,” Ewers wrote on Twitter, following Texas’ (University Interscholastic League) informing me I would be prohibited from profiting off of my own name, image and likeness, I’ve taken time to think about what lies ahead of me, both in the short- and long-term. It’s unfortunate I’ve found myself in this situation, as my preference would have been to complete my senior season at Southlake Carroll along with the teammates and friends I’ve taken the field alongside for the past three years. However, following conversations with my family and those I know have my best interests in mind, I’ve decided it’s time for me to enroll at Ohio State and begin my career as a Buckeye.”

The 6-foot-3, 206-pound Ewers committed to Ohio State in November. At the time, he was the top-rated quarterback prospect in the class of 2022 and the No. 2 player overall in 247Sports Composite rankings.

Ewers joins a roster that includes another five-star quarterback recruit, Kyle McCord of Philadelphia St. Joseph’s, and two four-star prospects from class of 2020: C.J. Stroud, of Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.); and Jack Miller of Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparrel.

Ohio State holds its first preseason practice for the 2021 season at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
