Toppin is an overwhelming favorite to win the conference’s player of the year award, which will be announced next week. No Dayton player has ever won that honor.
Toppin averaged 21.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games last week, while shooting 69.6 percent from the field (16 of 23) and 50 percent (3 of 6) from 3-point range. He’s the only player in Division I averaging at least 19.0 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the floor.
Dayton extended its winning streak to 18 games, the second longest in one season in school history, last week with two victories.
