An unprecedented season came to an unlikely end for the Dayton Flyers on Thursday.

The best regular season in program history will not include a postseason. The Atlantic 10 Conference cancelled its tournament. Then the NCAA did the same.

It was a heart-breaking end for everyone, especially Dayton’s seniors, Trey Landers and Ryan Mikesell, and Landers reacted with a heartfelt Instagram post after the team flew home from New York City to Dayton. The Wayne grad finished his career with 946 points.

“I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart!” Landers wrote. “I have loved every second of the last four years playing in front of the best fans in the country and making so many memories that will last with me forever! Day in and day out through all the wins and losses, you guys continued to support me and all of the teams I have played on through the years! I hate that it had to end like this and I wish it was all just a dream because I know this would have been an even more special season!

“But I know I gave this game my all and I put 110% of my effort and passion into this game every day that I stepped between those lines! I want to say thank you, Flyer Nation for molding me into the bright man that I am today! I can not express how much love I have for you all! This is not the last of Trey Landers ... I don’t know what the future holds for me but It will be bright. Trust me!”
