Boys tourney: Trotwood levels Cin. Aiken

Amari Davis scored 23 points second-half points and Carl Blanton 18 in leading Trotwood-Madison to a sloppy 96-62 rout of Cincinnati Aiken in a boys high school basketball Division II regional semifinal at Fairmont’s Trent Arena on Thursday night.

The Rams (25-2) will play Northridge (19-7) in the regional final at 3 p.m. Saturday also at Trent. That winner advances to next week’s D-II state final four at Columbus. Northridge advanced with a 60-56 defeat of Columbus Hartley to complete Thursday’s regional semi doubleheader.

Trotwood took immediate command and led 53-33 at halftime. A running clock was used most of the final quarter as play wilted. The teams – and benches – combined for six technical fouls, three each team and long after the Rams had taken control.

Malachi Matthews added 16 points for Trotwood, Sammy Anderson 15 and Keon’te Huguely 11 in a balanced – and blowout – Rams’ attack.

Aiken (20-7) was paced by D’Arris Dean’s 21 points. Jakada Stone added 14 points. Aiken advanced by overcoming an 18-point halftime deficit to Alter and beating the Knights in a district final, 66-56.
