Two former Dayton Dragons managers join David Bell’s staff with Reds

Longtime Reds coach Bill Hatcher will remain in organization

Former second baseman for the Montreal Expos and the Baltimore Orioles Delino DeShields is introduced as the Dragon's new manager during a press conference at Fifth Third Field.

Two former Dayton Dragons managers have joined the staff of new Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell.

Freddie Benavides will be Bell’s bench coach, the Reds announced Tuesday, and Delino DeShields will coach first base.

Benavides, who served as the Reds first base coach the last three seasons, was the first Dragons manager in 2000. DeShields managed the Dragons in 2011 and 2012 and has managed at every level of the Reds minor-league organization.

The Reds also announced Lee Tunnell, the bullpen coach for the Brewers the last six seasons, will be the bullpen coach, and Jeff Pickler, who spent the last two years with the Twins, will be the game planning and outfield coach.

Billy Hatcher will remain in the organization as the minor league outfield/base-running coordinator. He has been with the Reds the last 13 seasons.
