2 former Flyers earn WNBA training camp invitations

Two of the sixth-year seniors on the Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team last season earned WNBA training camp invitations Thursday.

Jenna Giacone, a 6-foot-1 guard from Delmar, N.Y., signed a training camp contract with the Seattle Storm, who start training camp Sunday and open the season May 6. She scored 975 points in five seasons on the court with the Flyers.

The Indiana Fever signed Erin Whalen, a 6-1 guard/forward from Charlotte, N.C., to a training camp contract. She scored 1,078 points in three seasons at Dayton. The Fever also start camp Sunday and open the season May 6.

Two former Flyers have made it to the WNBA: Ally Malott and Andrea Hoover, who were both inducted into UD’s hall of fame this year. Malott appeared in 47 games for the Washington Mystics in two seasons (2015-16). Hoover appeared in 12 games for the Los Angeles Sparks in 2015.
