Two Dayton Flyers men’s soccer players heard their names called in the third round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Friday.

• The Chicago Fire drafted Geni Kanyane, a defender from South Africa, with the No. 63 pick. He appeared in 72 games in four seasons at Dayton.

• Toronto FC drafted Joseph Melto Quiah, a midfielder from Liberia, with the No. 69 pick. In three seasons with the Flyers, he tallied 14 goals and 16 assists.

This is the fourth straight year Dayton has seen a player drafted. Eleven players from the program have been drafted since 2004.

Dayton finished 14-3-3 this past season and climbed to No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. It reached the Sweet 16 for the first time, losing 3-1 to Southern Methodist.

“I am extremely excited for both of these young men,” Dayton head coach Dennis Currier said in a press release. “They have unique journeys coming from Africa and have capped it off with an MLS Superdraft selection. This is also a testament to our program as we have had student-athletes selected in each of the last five drafts. Melto and Geni were part of the most successful team in Dayton’s history and their teammates played a critical role in this accomplishment.”
