» PLAYOFF ODDS: Reds still in contention despite losing record
The third annual Players’ Weekend returns Aug. 23-25. Players are allowed to display nicknames on the back of their jerseys instead of their last names and, according to Major League Baseball, “are given the chance to design, wear and use creatively colored and decorated equipment including bats, spikes, batting gloves, wristbands, compression sleeves and catcher’s equipment.”
The Reds revealed their players’ choices Tuesday. Votto will pay homage to the famous Abbott & Costello routine with his choice. Who will be on first, even if his real name is Votto.
» HAL McCOY: Bauer not committed to any team long term
Votto was “Tokki 2” in 2017 and “In Flanders Fields” last season.
Here’s a glimpse at some of the other names the Reds will use:
• Jose Iglesias: Candelita.
• Eugenio Suarez: Bolibomba Suarez.
• Jose Peraza: My Little Ones.
• Nick Senzel: Lil Senzel.
• Jesse Winker: Bird.
• Tucker Barnhart: Tuck.
• Luis Castillo: La Piedra.
• Josh VanMeter: Meat Sauce.
Well go ahead, who's on first?
