Chidobe Awuzie then made sure the momentum stayed with the Bengals when he intercepted Matthew Stafford’s pass intended for Van Jefferson. Cincinnati drove down to the red zone but a third-down sack by Aaron Donald forced the Bengals to settle for a field goal from Evan McPherson.
McPherson’s 38-yarder extended the lead to 20-13 with 10:15 left in the third quarter and allowed the Bengals’ rookie kicker to tie Adam Vinatieri’s record of 14 field goals made in a postseason. McPherson is 14-of-14 this postseason.
The Rams trimmed the margin to 20-16 on a field goal with 5:58 to play in the third quarter.
