WHO: George Kenneth Griffey Jr. was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in Cincinnati as the son of Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Sr. The younger Griffey hit 210 of his 630 home runs as a Red from 2000-2008. Joining him in the class of 2016 is catcher Mike Piazza.

MISCELLANEOUS: Griffey will be the second player who primarily played for the Mariners to join the Hall of Fame, joining left-handed pitcher Randy Johnson… He is the first No. 1 overall MLB draft pick to be elected to the Hall of Fame… Four players from greater Cincinnati have been elected to the Hall of Fame: Griffey, Buck Ewing, Jim Bunning and former Red Barry Larkin.
