Women’s basketball: Baker, Hale headline WSU’s Horizon League honorees

Sophomore Angel Baker and freshman Shamarre Hale today headlined Wright State’s representatives on the Horizon League’s women’s basketball teams.

Baker, a guard, was named to the league’s first team, while Hale, a center, was named freshman of the year.

Baker ranked second in the league in scoring at 16.7 points per game. Hale ranked fourth in the league in rebounding (8.3) and averaged 8.9 points per game.

Wright State senior guard Michal Miller was named to the second team. Guard Jada Roberson joined Hale on the league’s all-freshman team. Junior Tyler Frierson was named to the league’s all-defensive team.

IUPUI’s Macee Williams was named player of the year for the second straight season. She was joined on the first team by Baker, Mariah Miller of Cleveland State, Frankie Wurtz of Green Bay and Chelsea Olson of Youngstown State.

The honors were determined by vote of the league’s 10 coaches.

Wright State opens Horizon League tournament play at home Tuesday night vs. UIC at the Nutter Center.
